The Krio Descendants Union KDU - Georgia Chapter (KDU-GA) formerly known as We Yone Descendants Union came into being on the 17th August 2006, when Mrs. Cassandra Garber, Global President of The Krio Descendants Union of Freetown visited Atlanta Georgia. 

The first meeting was held at the home of Mr. & Mrs. William Walker.  At that meeting Mrs. Garber passionately expressed that the purpose of forming such a union was to encourage citizens of Krio descendants from Sierra Leone, West Africa to have a global alliance.  She shared information about the “Fritong Krio Descendants Yunion” (The KDU in Freetown, Sierra Leone) about their mission, aims and objectives and further reiterated the realization of the value, essence, and need to preserve the Kio Heritage. 

She expressed serious concerns on the current problems and struggles encountered and endured by some of the Kith and Kin of Freetown, Sierra Leone.  This was an eye opener, particularly for those who have been away from the home land for a while.  She articulated her worries about how the country was facing “Brain Drainage” within the Krio community as most of them were out of the country, about properties and land grabbing in terms of preservation of the Krio heritage, protection of their culture, and tradition and the senseless killing of innocent Kiros. 

 Mrs. Garber impressed on all present, the necessity for people of Krio Descent, to work with other ethnic groups, who are in the majority in Sierra Leone for a prosperous and healthy nation building goal.             At this time the members were really stirred up and a few tears were shed.  Members moved to start working out the modalities of forming and operating the: We Yone Descendants Union now known as KRIO DESCENDANTS UNION – GA CHAPTER (KDU-GA).  There and then, elections were held, and Mrs. Helen Walker was unanimously voted as the President and Mrs. Linda Charaff as Secretary. Hence the birth of another KRIO DESCENDANTS UNION (KDU) Chapter in the United States of America.
