The 6th Annual Krio Descendants Family Reunion - A Powerful and Inspiring Weekend
Members of the KDU Georgia Chapter at our Thanksgiving Service.
The Krio Descendants Union, Georgia Chapter (KDU-GA) proudly hosted the 6th Annual Global Krio Descendants Family Reunion this Labor Day weekend, and it was truly an unforgettable gathering. Chapters from across the United States and around the world joined us here in Georgia as we came together to celebrate our heritage, strengthen our unity, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting our people in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The entire weekend was designed to highlight the Krios of Freetown, our past, present, and future, and to honor the important contributions Krios continue to make in their communities and in the world. From cultural education to fellowship and entertainment, each event brought members closer and reminded us of the powerful legacy we share.
The weekend began on Friday, August 30, 2013, with a lively and welcoming Meet and Greet. Members were excited to reconnect, meet new attendees, and set the tone for the activities ahead. On Saturday, August 31, the schedule was full, beginning with an informative symposium, followed by a luncheon sale, and closing with an elegant Black Tie Dinner & Dance. The energy, music, and togetherness on Saturday night reflected the pride and joy of being part of the Krio community.
On Sunday, September 1, 2013, we gathered for one of the weekend’s most meaningful traditions: our Thanksgiving Service. As an organization, we recognize that while we strategize, plan, and work hard, it is God’s blessing that allows us to achieve our goals. Taking time to give thanks is an essential part of our reunion, and this year’s service was no exception. The weekend concluded with a family picnic, where members relaxed, shared food, and enjoyed time together outdoors.
The 6th Annual Krio Descendants Family Reunion was a tremendous success. Chapters from across the globe made powerful contributions, and together we strengthened our commitment to preserving our culture and advancing the heritage of the Krio people of Sierra Leone. We are grateful for everyone who traveled, participated, supported, and helped make this weekend a celebration to remember.
We look forward to continuing this important work and building on the unity and dedication shown throughout this year’s reunion.
